San Diego Chargers…Looking For Another Trip To The Big Game

In 1960, the American Football League started their first season. The Los Angeles Chargers were one of the first teams to join. They became the San Diego Chargers in the second year and have been a part of American professional football ever since. In the AFL, they reached the playoffs five times, making it to the Championship game four times and winning once in 1963, against the Boston Patriots.

In 1970, the San Diego Chargers became part of the National Football League as part of the AFL/NFL merger. Since joining the NFL, the team has made it to the playoffs eleven times, and won the championship for their division nine times. They have only been to one Super Bowl to date, losing to the San Francisco 49ers.

Qualcomm Stadium is the home of the San Diego Chargers. Originally built in 1967, the stadium then known as San Diego Stadium had seats for 53,000 people. Since then, there have been a few name changes going first to Jack Murphy Stadium, after the local sports writer who convinced the owner to move the team to San Diego.

In 1997, a communications company bought the naming rights to the stadium changing the name to Qualcomm Stadium until 2017. Improvements and expansions to the stadium have brought seating to more than 71,000, adding 113 Suites and club level seating with four lounges.

In 1990, the San Diego Chargers gained their own dance team, the Charger Girls. 28 talented and beautiful women help cheer on the team at games, perform in halftime shows, and provide entertainment and charity work for the community. These women are college students, professionals, and entertainers.

Like other teams, the San Diego Chargers are very active and involved in their community. Players and dance team members provide time and money to various charities throughout the community, as well as the projects, charities, and foundations founded by the team itself.

Blood drives, scholarships, grants and donations are just some of the activities they contribute to or support. The team is also very involved in promoting educational and physical excellence within the community, and especially with children in the area.

Six players and one coach from the San Diego Chargers have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Although they have not been to a Super Bowl since 1995, they have managed to win the AFC West division championship four out of the last five years. They provide great entertainment and seem likely to make it back to the Super Bowl in the near future.
